Virginia Code § 18.2-57 provides that it is illegal to touch another person in a rude, angry or vengeful manner.  If the unlawful touching involves a family or household member such as a wife or live-in girlfriend then the person accused will be charged with domestic assault and battery pursuant to Virginia Code § 18.2-57.2.
